Based on the words bgwi and orhync, she was raised in a community of predominantly some flavor of echidna; he was raised in a community of predominantly some flavor of bowerbird. (I've just had a lovely yet fruitless wander through the Web looking for the presumably non-Latin origin of those names.) Oddly, both come from communities of egg-layers, which leads to the odd phrasing "bear her own live young".
The social and relationship expectations of the two communities are rather different from modern real-life human communities. It'll be interesting to see how this pairing plays out given the rather disparate origins. And if it does, will one move to the other's to share that desirable-for-at-least-two-reasons cushion?
