Assuming I'm doing the math right, a facing error of one degree — and I would not be confident of my own accuracy to within five — at my previous distance estimate of 30 km leaves a potential 500+ meter error at the far end. I'm going to guess that these are actually full-on teleportation boots, and the facing doesn't matter except to get you into the right frame of mind to go where you want.
I like the crowd reaction to her bag of holding. I'm guessing most people don't get to see her set up when she's there for the beginning of the market day. I'm kind of surprised to see the same reaction at take-down, as I suspect she's leaving at a mostly ordinary time? But a spectacle is a spectacle, and at very least her audience — and I — will wonder how it all goes in, and how she keeps the big heavy bits from knocking the bottles around or breaking them.
I like that the reeve comes to Liavan's aid and treats it as an ordinary market issue, rather than as a family issue. (I strongly suspect he knew full well it was her mother.) Family is one of the very hardest things to deal with, because of all the baggage; a third party there to point things out can sometimes help, or at least defuse.
Mirran Blackshift appears to not be surnamed Penden. Do family names not pass along to children? Or am I misunderstanding how naming works here?
