[livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith is having a poetry fishbowl today with the theme of nature and I think that is what has led to these random thoughts. Apologies are probably owed to Sir Terry and to Ursula Vernon.

We speak of sapient pearwood and my mind is off again.
Does its fruit resemble the biting pear, I wonder, and if so what would spread the seeds of such a tree?
If the fruit bites, dare one bear a staff made of the stuff?
And if the wood is sapient, does it act to keep a remnant population of growing trees in the world so that it remains a renewable resource?  Or is being a tree again what happens to sapient pearwood objects once function and form are broken?
