I wrote this to the Thimbleful Thursday prompt "The Witching Hour." There is a Witching Hour I.

Everett was up late, studying for next week’s biology exam. He needed the marks to get his scores up, that and to stop the invidious comparisons to his siblings and cousins. He was smart enough to know that if he did well enough at school, he could go away to university and never come back to being never good enough. The breeze dropped the end of the window blinds out of its fitting again, and he moved his chair over to the window so he could reach to replace it.

A dark robed figure stood on the footpath opposite. “Don’t want what you’re selling,” Everett muttered through his teeth.
